In this article, I would like to give a brief description about Ravana. Ravana was the son of Vishrawas Muni and Kalikesi. He actually was the eldest of his family. He had two brothers named Kumbhakarna and Vibhishna. According to Hela sources, during his teenage, Ravana used to practice medicine with his grand father, Pulasthi Rishi, at a hospital complex which was located in Polonnaruwa area in Sri Lanka. A statue of Pulasthi Rishi, which some people argue as the statue of the great king Parakramabahu, is still there at Polonnaru Gal Viharaya area.

Ravana was an expert in medicine. He wrote several books on advance surgery and therapies which are still in use among native medical practitioners.
Ravana belonged to the Asuras. Asura means “the people who don’t drink ‘sura’ (‘sura’ was the native name for alcohol)”. This also describes that the people who used to drink ‘sura’ were Suras. These were the main two nations that existed during that era. But some people claim that Ravana was also a Brahmin. According to Hela civilization, Ravana was a Hela king. Hela, which can also be called as Sivu-Hela, was the main nation that Ravana belonged and ruled. It consisted of four different sub races named Naga, Yakkha, Deva and Rakus. Ravana captured many lands and promoted his nation and culture among them. He refused animal sacrifices and superstitious believes in praying. This could be the reason behind the cultural conflict that triggered the war between Sura and Asura.
